Violet is two years old and just like any girl her age, she loves going to the park, swinging, and playing with her brother and baby sister. Violet brings a lot of joy to her family’s life. Last August Violet started receiving therapy for gross motor delay and low muscle tone; she has no formal diagnosis.
When learning about Violet’s challenges her mom stated, “The most frustrating thing for our family is that Violet has no formal diagnosis. Living with her gross motor delays has been challenging; we want Violet to experience everything a normal two year old does. We feel very determined to get her the help she needs and go the distance for her as a family.”
Violet has been coming to Easter Seals for a little under a year. In that time, she has been receiving physical therapy, occupational therapy, and feeding therapy. She is also in the developmental play group for 30-36 month old children.
There are many challenges Violet’s family is faced with related to Violets needs. The biggest challenge is motivating Violet to walk. Her exercises are hard work, but her family is determined to see her continue to make progress. Another struggle for the family is related to Violet’s dietary needs. It can be difficult to make sure she gets the proper nutrition and calories every day.
In the time Violet has been with Easter Seals her biggest milestone she has reached has been gaining the strength to walk! Easter Seals taught Violet’s family exercises Violet could do at home to help facilitate Violet’s walking. Violet started walking on her own at Christmas time 2014. It was the best gift her family could have asked her. Violet sees her therapists as friends which helps make her therapy sessions fun for her!
