A Walk With Champions

“A characteristic of a normal child is he doesn’t act that way very often.” – Anonymous
Therefore, we are all normal as ourselves.
What a funny word…. “normal”. Is there such a thing? We say no. At Easter Seals, we don’t live normal lives and don’t expect our families and children that walk through the doors each day to do so either.
An interesting day could be spent sitting in the lobby of Easter Seals in Bloomington, Illinois, watching and listening to the kids that visit. You might see some smiles, hear some laughter. Perhaps, hear some crying or see some tears. But you’ll also see hugs, celebration and success as each kid leaves with a feeling of accomplishment.
Do you remember what that feels like? Accomplishment. Progress. Success. Think, really think, about the last time you felt something like this. Was it today? Yesterday? Last month, week or year?
For nearly 4,000 kids in Central Illinois, accomplishment comes each and every day at Easter Seals. Here, we celebrate when a goal is met or progress is made. It can be as simple as pronouncing a vowel and as complex as letting go of the assistive walker and taking the very first independent steps. How thrilling this must be!
And yet… it is normal to do these things each day without consideration, much thought or praise for most people. Not here. Not today.
TODAY, we celebrate the accomplishment that makes each kid here at Easter Seals a CHAMPION of their own abilities.
TOMORROW and every day after, we’ll do the same.
On Saturday, July 25 – we want you to join us in celebration for these Champions at Walk With Me: A Walk With Champions. It’s only a one mile walk, but it’s an important mile for everyone who has ever met a personal milestone. On this day, over 25 Easter Seals Champions will represent their abilities with you at their side. Awareness and support is the key here.
