He was diagnosed with Autism and Sensory Processing Disorder which causes his brain to experience difficulty receiving and responding to information that comes through his senses.
Tyler has 5 older siblings. His mother, Dawn, states that everything their family does now takes a lot of thought and planning. She wants to make sure that Tyler is a productive member of society. When first starting services at Easter Seals at the age of 2, Tyler’s biggest struggles were communicating and eating. He started receiving speech therapy, developmental therapy, feeding therapy, occupational therapy, counseling and applied behavior analysis. Now, Tyler is able to communicate and eat with his family. He currently only receives occupational therapy and is working on writing.
It has been a long road for Tyler. Tyler’s mom states that the most important thing she wants Tyler to know is that he is a good, honest and loving person. He has made so many milestones over the years and he continues to work hard in therapy to reach his goals. This is what makes Tyler a Champion of his abilities.
