Keagan is five years old and just like any typical boy his age he loves to color and swim! This summer he has been learning to swim without his floaties! Three years ago, Keagan was diagnosed with cerebral palsy.
When learning about Kegan’s diagnosis, his family states: “We were very scared when we found out. We were worried Keagan wouldn’t have the life every kid deserves. We wondered if he would be able to walk, run or throw a ball. We just wanted him to be able to be a kid.”
During Keagan’s three years at Easter Seals he has received both physical and occupational therapy. Easter Seals has also provided Keagan with a bike, a wheel-chair, and a walker to help aid in his progress.
The biggest struggle for Kegan’s family is making sure to make the right decisions for his medical needs because these decisions will affect his whole life. It is also a struggle financially due to doctors’ appointments but his family always makes sure Keagan is getting the right help he needs.
When Keagan began his journey with Easter Seals he did not know how to walk. The therapists at Easter Seals worked with Keagan to build muscle strength and he cannot only walk now, he can also run! Currently Keagan is learning how to write. His hand shake so it makes it hard for him to hold a pencil but every day he continues to make progress and will be writing before we know it! This is what makes Keagan a Champion of his own abilities.
Funny story about Keagan from his mom:
Keagan has been so excited because he graduated Pre-k and will move on next year to Kindergarten. We were talking about everything that will change when he goes to Kindergarten, including his teachers, the kids, and of course his school. So the Day after he graduates we are getting ready to take the other boys to school, when Keagan insists that he needs his book bag because he starts kindergarten. I had to explain he has to stay home for summer. He wanted to move on to Kindergarten right away!
