Hunter is three years old and is just like any other typical three-year-old; he loves to play in the water, watch Sesame Street and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and loves cookies! Hunter brings a lot of joy to his family’s lives. When he was born he was diagnosed with Achondroplasia: a bone growth disorder that results in very short limbs.
This diagnosis sounds very confusing and scary. Hunter’s mom had to hear that his development would be delayed. Hearing that the odds are against your son and walking independently may be out of the question is downright scary. Hunter started receiving services at Easter Seals when he was 9 months old. He received physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. As Hunter progressed and started walking with a walker, it was estimated that he wouldn’t walk until he was 5. He is now able to take multiple steps independently.
Hunter’s mom states, “Hunter can do and be anything he wants and his family loves him.” Hunter has achieved many milestones at Easter Seals. He is getting closer to his developmental age group and continues to work hard in therapy. This is what makes Hunter a Champion of his own abilities.
Funny story about Hunter from Sarah:
When Hunter was learning to walk at Easter Seals, his physical therapist Michelle, had him in the hallway and he wanted people to watch him so we had to go office to office and have everyone watch him walk.
