Finnegan is three years old and just like any typical three-year-old boy, he loves trains and cars! Finnegan and his sister bring a lot of joy to their family. Finnegan was diagnosed early on with developmental, speech, & physical delays and unilateral hearing loss.
All of this was information was scary and confusing for his family. His mom says, “We were very unsure what Finn’s life would be like after being 15 weeks premature and coming down with meningitis at 6 months. His gross motor delays were the most obvious as he wasn’t walking until he was 2 years old. It was heartbreaking to see him wanting to play with kids his age but not be able to maneuver his body to get there. We were also concerned about Finn’s hearing loss as we tried many avenues over the course of a year to understand his hearing levels and what methods/aids would work best for him.”
Finnegan has been receiving services with Easter Seals for two years. During this time he has received speech and feeding therapy.
The biggest challenge for Finnegan’s family was having enough time for his appointments. It was challenging scheduling six therapists whom he saw at various frequencies. However, now that he has transitioned out of Early Intervention, his family sees how much it was all worth!
When Finnegan began his journey with Easter Seals, he initially had a lot of trouble with sound development, vocabulary, and auditory memory. One of his therapists gave Finn’s family tools and strategies to use to help him with sound development and reassurance whenever he would regress. He’s made amazing strides in his speech and vocabulary and is now talking in complete sentences!
Funny story about Finn from his mom:
Finn is a big helper! At his 3rd birthday party, Finn went around to many of his party guests and offered to take their empty plates and throw them out!
