Conary is three years old and is just like any other typical three-year-old; he loves Thomas The Train, drawing with chalk and blowing bubbles. He started coming to Easter Seals when he was eight months old and received services like occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy and feeding therapy through Early Intervention. Today, he continues to receive feeding therapy through Easter Seals.
“Cooking at home and making meals for Conary is difficult,” states Conary’s mom, Rhonda. Conary has three older siblings. Cooking at home for four children that all have different needs has made shopping and cooking quite the experience for Conary’s family. When Conary was an infant, Rhonda couldn’t buy regular baby food – she either had to make everything herself or use a feeding tube so Conary could get the nutrients and calories he needed.
Conary’s biggest difficulty is eating different textured foods and being able to keep them in his system. He is making constant milestones in feeding therapy – he usually has his best meal of the day while in therapy! Conary is now able to state when he feels full and he recently was able to add milk and wheat to his diet.
It has been a long road for Conary’s family. Being able to continually add new foods to Conary’s diet and for Conary to understand the feeling of being hungry and full has been his greatest accomplishment through his work at Easter Seals. This is what makes Conary a Champion of his own abilities.
