Adyson is a year and half years old. She loves to spend her time swinging and swimming and likes to play with anything shiny. At just seven months old, Adyson had a prolonged seizure.
Adyson’s family states “Our perfectly happy and healthy 7 month old suddenly wasn’t. We were devastated. The doctors could not find a reason for why Adyson had a prolonged seizure so there were a lot of unanswered questions and 'what ifs'. No one could tell us the extent of the injury or how her life would be impacted moving forward. We were lost, sad, angry, and desperate for answers. ”
Adyson began coming to Easter Seals one year ago. Adyson receives speech and physical therapy. During her time at Easter Seals, Adyson’s family gained better understanding of Adyson’s diagnosis.
Adyson’s family lives’ have changed tremendously since she started having seizures. Prior to Adyson’s seizures, both of her parents worked full-time. Now Adyson’s dad stays home with Adyson during the day and works-part time in the evenings.
When Adyson began her journey with Easter Seals, she had difficulty doing many age appropriate things, such as, holding her head up, sitting independently, and crawling. Easter Seals has helped Adyson achieve all of those things. Adyson’s doctors have been worried that Adyson would not be able to walk. Through her therapy sessions, Adyson has learned to walk with assistance, and she is well on her way to walking independently! This is what makes Adyson a Champion of her own abilities.
Story about Adyson:
“From Adyson's prolonged seizure, she has a cortical visual impairment. For a while she was not looking or interested in most things. When we put up our Christmas tree in November she constantly wanted to play by it and loved looking at the lights. One night, she crawled under the tree, was playing and laid down and fell asleep under the tree. We contemplated keeping the tree up all year just because she loved it so much.”
